Spinal tumors consist of a wide spectrum that develops from various histological structures. Approximately 60% of spinal tumors are in the extradural space and 40% in the intradural space. Enostosis, also called bone islet, is a common benign hamartomatous bone spinal lesion. 10-25% of osteoid osteoma cases are seen in the spine. Lumbar region is most commonly affected in the spine. Osteoblastoma constitutes 5% of all primary benign bone tumors. The thoracic spine is the most frequently affected area in aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC). Hemangiomas are common, usually benign lesions detected incidentally. Chordomas are non-malignant tumors originating from the embryonic remnants of the notochord extending from the Rathke sac to the coccyx. Most of the spinal chondrosarcomas are histologically low grade lesions.
