Spinal tumors make up approximately 15% of central nervous system neoplasms and typically originate from the cellular components of the spinal cord, filum terminale, nerve roots, or meninges. Metastatic involvement in the intradural region is rare. Clinical symptoms in extramedullary tumors vary depending on the tumor`s location and often resemble slowly growing intraspinal masses. The most common tumors in the intramedullary compartment are primary glial tumors like ependymomas and astrocytomas. Non-specific early symptoms are usually followed by signs such as pain and weakness over time. Radiological imaging is the gold standard for diagnosing spinal cord tumors. The intensity of the lesion relative to the spinal cord and the contrast enhancement pattern on T1 and T2 sequences are important findings that can assist in the differential diagnosis.
