While the majority of spinal extradural tumors are caused by metastases, only 10% are primary tumors. Benign lesions in this region, such as neurofibroma, meningioma, and osteoma, are typically observed in young adults, whereas malignant primary extradural spinal tumors, including multiple myeloma, plasmacytoma, and osteosarcoma, tend to occur more frequently in middle-aged individuals. The spine is the most common site for skeletal metastases in cancer patients, with spinal metastases predominantly affecting the lumbar region, followed by the thoracic and cervical spine. The primary goal in the treatment of extradural spinal tumors is total surgical resection. However, while excellent outcomes can be achieved with total resection of benign lesions, prognosis is generally poor despite all treatment modalities in malignant lesions.
