Back and radicular pain and, in progressive stages, neuromotor deficits are the main symptoms of degenerative disc disease. The prevalence is in concordance with the aging population. Due to the high incidence appropriate diagnosis is important. Knowing the patophysiological and clinical progress of degeneration and regeneration of intervertbral disc tissue is a key factor for understanding the clinical outcomes and providing suitable treatment options for this disease.
