Percutaneous endoscopic discectomy of the lumbar spine has become a widely used technique for treatment lumbar disc herniations. This technique and its clinical success have led to similar minimally invasive approaches in the cervical spine. Surgeons are usually more hesitant about anterior minimally invasive and endoscopic approaches to cervical discs due to their complex anatomical. But minimally invasive spine surgery has become more mainstream over the past twenty years. Endoscopic imaging with sufficient clarity is now easily accessible. With advancing technology, more functional and controllable lasers offer safer procedures in minimally invasive and endoscopic procedures in the cervical region. After sufficient experience in the lumbar region, future procedures in the cervical and thoracic regions will be minimally invasive and endoscopic.
