Brucellosis is a zoonotic infection that affects many organs and systems and can be seen endemic in Turkey. The main systems of involvement of brucellosis are the reticuloendothelial system and the skeletal-muscular system. Involvement of the skeletal-muscular system can be 10-85%, and the most common involvement in this system is the spine. Although spinal involvement is the most common complication of brucellosis, the association of multilevel spine involvement, paravertebral abscess and epidural abscess is seen rarely. The main treatment for spinal brucellosis is antibiotic therapy and its prognosis is generally good. However, cases with neurological dysfunction, spinal instability, kyphotic and scoliotic deformation, abscess formation, persistent pain and unsuccessful response to conservative treatment may require surgical treatment. In this article, the role and management of surgical treatment in spinal brucellosis have been reviewed with the support of the literature.
