Scheuermann`s disease is a kyphotic deformity that usually affects the thoracic spine and occurs during adolescence. It is a disorder that often occurs with cosmetic complaints in most patients and is often treated with conservative methods. Brace treatments and physical therapies are applied to skeletally immature patients. Surgical procedures are performed on patients with kyphosis greater than 75°, kyphotic progression, cosmetically unacceptable appearance, or neurological deficits. Surgery generally involves an only-posterior approach with transpedicular screw stabilization and multisegmental Ponte osteotomies. Rarely in cases where the kyphosis angle is very high and very rigid, anterior column releases with anterior approach can be added to the posterior surgery. As with all diseases that require instrumentation, there are short and long-term complications in cases of Scheuermann's kyphosis. Decent preoperative planning is vital to avoid these complications.
