Scientific researches have reported that intervertebral disc degeneration is a common contributing factor to different spinal pathologies, especially low back pain, and that pathologies caused by IVDD pose a significant burden on healthcare systems on a global scale. Among the available treatment modalities, there is no approved treatment protocol for the prevention of progressive degeneration of the intervertebral disc. Therefore, restorative and regenerative strategies aimed at restoring the non-degenerate structure of the intervertebral disc have been fundamentally promising. Stem cell applications have also taken their place at the top among these pharmaco-biological strategies. This research was carried out with the aim of finding an answer at the level of evidence to the question of whether stem cells applied to the degenerative disc can regress/stop degeneration and/or provide regeneration in the disc tissue.
