Resveratrol is a phytoalexin phenolic compound that has been reported to have anti-apoptotic, anti-senescence, antiinflammatory, anti-oxidative and anabolic activities, which can prevent intervertebral disc cells from further degeneration and help enhance their regeneration. Resveratrol, which is claimed to be non-toxic and can be used safely, has been reported to have various biological functions through signaling pathways for disc regeneration, apoptosis and cellular aging. In this review, it was aimed to summarize the pharmacobiological functions of phytoalexins, which are promising in the future against intervertebral disc degeneration, and to facilitate further research.
