One of the most effective treatments for atherosclerosis is statins, which are used to reduce the level of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. Recent studies have addressed both the pleiotropic effects of statins and their important role in inflammatory signaling pathways, in addition to their lipid-lowering effects. On the one hand, studies mention that statins cause the activation of inflammatory cytokines, and on the other hand, they report that statins may cause inhibition of inflammatory pathways. In this review; it was aimed to investigate the importance of statins, also known as HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, in signaling pathways related to intervertebral disc degeneration.
