The contribution of vitamin K2, also known as menaquinone, to spinal fusion in intervertebral disc degeneration is not fully understood. However, some potential mechanisms by which vitamin K2 may contribute to spinal fusion have been suggested. These; it may contribute to the structural integrity of the newly formed bone during spinal fusion by activating proteins involved in bone metabolism such as osteocalcin, inducing the redirection of calcium to bones and preventing its accumulation in soft tissues, suppressing inflammation, supporting the healing of tissues and increasing collagen production. This review was carried out with the aim of finding an answer to the question of whether menaquinone will contribute to spinal fusion by showing an osteoinductive effect to support progenitor osteocytes and osteoblasts through the mentioned potential mechanisms.
